Common issues
The Rover body in general no specific engines have a few common issues
The main issue i would say is Rust, these cars like to rust normally on the cills its vital to have them undercoated (lanogaurd recommended) regularly, its easy to do at home with a jack and axel stands, it is rather time consuming you will need to dedicated a day to it.
The airbag light, normally this is caused by wiring under the drivers side in most situations simply foundling around under the drivers seat with solve the issue
Another thing about rust, if you have to skidpan fitted to the front of your car its very common for rust to form on the subframe as in winter salt gets stuck up there etc, I recommended removing it and cleaning atleast twice a year specificly around the winter
Now onto engines
Lets start with the 1.8
These engines are known for their reputation to murder headgasket, they tend to blow a headgasket every 40-50k miles with the stock radiator (upgradeds exist to prolong this)
You'll often see good condition Rover 75s or mg zts for sale around 40k or 90k that for not cheapish prices, I can assure you this will more than likely mean the headgasket is one its way out
2.0 V6
Avoid this engine its a bomb
2.5 Kv6
This engine is most people's go to, it sounds amazing, decent reliability but it had its floors
When These engines overheat they of course do the headgasket and its an even worse job on these than the 1.8, the Cambelts are also known for issues, they need replacing every 90k (according to Rover) when they go they are quite a large job... some other issues with the Kv6 are the theromstats and water pumps
2.0 cdti/cdt
Now These will go forever with the correct maintenance but they still have issues
Pcv filter can become clogged causing issues, a bypass is recommended, the thermostat likes to jam open, aslong as its open its okay! It will not need to be replaced there is a modification that essentially adds another without the massive job, the clutch is a massive job on These, this is a big cause of scrapping with these diesels, when the clutch goes your in big trouble, so always be careful with that...the master cylinder is also known to fail which although a fiddly job it isn't too bad
